St Mary’s Anglican Church foundation stone was laid in 1911 and is nestled off the shores of Lake Alexandrina in the town of Milang, South Australia. St Mary’s churches Brian Griffin was referred to Integrated Audio Solutions via Tim Freedman from Allpro Audio Rentals (rental company for the church) to come up with a solution for their public address needs (the church had never possessed permanent amplification).

IAS conducted a site visit to ascertain the best fit – for – purpose for the congregations current and future needs. Speaker modelling was completed followed by Yamaha VXL24 listening tests. Three (3) Dimensional perspectives were generated indicating the optimal speaker positioning and aesthetics viewpoint.

The Yamaha VXL24 column array speaker was chosen for its uniformed volume, sound quality and slim form with a cost-effective price point for budget fit. The acoustic modelling called for two Yamaha VXL24’s either side of the arch.

The front of arch speaker positioning didn’t hinder the gain-before-feedback results (excellent) for the JTS R4’s wireless headsets and hand held microphone on the podium(s), that were in very close vicinity to the speaker system. The Yamaha VXL24 acoustics horizontal control was achieved by coupling the two VXL24’s speakers per side, allowing for a narrower horizontal beam angle, keeping the sound waves off the side walls, reducing any unwanted reflected nasty artifacts.

To performance match the speaker system, the Yamaha PX5 DSP amplifier and Yamaha MG12 small format ease-of-operation mixing control were implemented, including both hardwired and bluetooth background music playback.

The result
A very cohesive, evenly distributed and controlled full-range sound, catering for both speech and music reproduction, allowing ease-of-operation for the congregation.
